Course Description
The diagnosis and treatment of Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMD) have peeked the clinical interest of varied healthcare professionals and as well as the general public. This sudden interest has given rise to an onslaught of promotional programs, materials, methodologies and service delivery models that often result in a variety of preconceptions and misperceptions.
Robyn and Mary, with over 50 years of combined experience, are considered subject matter experts in the assessment and treatment of OMDs with a long history of advocacy, ethics and evidence-based practices in the field. Their leadership roles through the Oral Motor Institute (president and director) and the International Association of Orofacial Myology (past president, Mentoring Chair, and committee members) have enabled them to establish and advocate for the use of highest ethical and clinical standards when working with clients with oral motor and /or myofunctional disorders.
In this presentation, Mary and Robyn will discuss the myths, mysteries and misunderstandings emerging in orofacial myology and help clarify the misconceptions that often lead to a decline in patient care. Together they will help resolve some of the common issues faced by clinicians working in this multidisciplinary field, as well as delineate and encourage the use of proper training protocols to maximize both clinical skills and practice management under current guidelines.
