Course Description

TalkTools Instructor and dysphagia expert, Colette Ellis, will be discussing the significance of the 12 cranial nerves upon other systems in the human body, with an emphasis on swallowing and feeding for pediatric clients. Instruction will include identifying the 6 pairs of cranial nerves, which systems each pair impacts, assessing functionality and impacts on swallowing and feeding.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will be able to:

  1. identify six pairs of cranial nerves relative to speech and swallowing mechanisms.
  2. understand the relationship between cranial nerves and subsystems of the body.
  3. determine the different sensory, motor or dual function of cranial nerves.
  4. conduct an assessment on the impact of cranial nerves with regard to swallowing and feeding issues.
