Barbara Coven-Elis MA, CCC-SLP is a medically based speech language pathologist (SLP) who works in outpatient pediatric rehabilitation and adult acute care at St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale, WA. In her role as clinician, she works with the birth through teenage population, often coordinating with local children’s hospitals and receiving infants for outpatient care upon discharge from their NICU’s. Ms. Coven-Ellis works in a multi-disciplinary pediatric clinic and is fortunate to work side-by-side and cotreat along with an extremely talented and dedicated staff of pediatric PT’s, OT’s, and SLP’s. She is the author of Tyler Takes a Taste, a children’s book about a boy and his family’s journey with “picky eating” and feeding disorders. Ms. Coven-Ellis is certified in SOFFI Method, AEIOU, Hanen: It Takes Two to Talk, and is currently working on her certification in lactation counseling and her board certification in swallowing disorders. She is a 6 time ASHA Ace award recipient and a superstar community member for ASHA SIG 13, where she is often found writing about pediatric feeding disorders and helping clinicians problem solve for their pediatric patients. She appeared on Melanie Potock’s “Picky Eater Help!” YouTube series discussing 5 Surprising Reasons Your Kid Doesn’t Want to Swallow that New Food.
