Barry Raphael is a specialist in orthodontics and creator of the Raphael Center for Integrative Orthodontics. The purpose of his practice is to address the underlying causes of malocclusion and to help people develop or regain an optimal physiologic airway and breathing pattern. He does this by looking beyond the teeth and using a comprehensive orthodontic approach that addresses the structure, function and behavior of the whole person. This approach requires an interdisciplinary team that often includes a myofunctional therapist and a body therapist.
Dr. Raphael will talk about how an SLP with a background in orofacial myofunctional therapy can work with an integrative orthodontist to get the best outcomes for their mutual patients.
Dr. Raphael’s Center for Integrative Education has now been incorporated into The Airway Collaborative, an organization whose mission is to educate the professions about the medical indications for airway-focused dental and medical treatment, of which he is a principal. Dr. Raphael is a paid lecturer for the Myofunctional Research Company, makers of the Myobrace System. Dr. Raphael receives a speaker fee from TalkTools for this course. Non-Financial: no disclosures
