Oral Placement to Speech Kit (OPT-S) Articulation Card Set

Oral Placement to Speech Kit (OPT-S) Articulation Card Set

The TalkTools Oral Placement to Speech Kit (OPT-S) Articulation Card Set is an innovative program that translates oral motor muscle movements into functional speech sound production. Designed for children and adults with muscle-based speech disorders such as low tone, Orofacial Myofunctional Disorder, and dysarthria, the card set organizes 185 phoneme cards by jaw transition complexity to allow clinicians to build individualized, hierarchy-based articulation programs.

Therapy Goals

  • Translate oral muscle movements learned in Oral Placement Therapy (OPT) activities into speech sound production
  • Build functional articulation for early developing phonemes: /m/, /b/, /p/ (bilabials), /t/, /d/, /n/ (tongue tip elevation), /k/, /g/, /h/ (velars), and /w/ (lip rounding)
  • Progress systematically through consonant-vowel (CV) and consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) word combinations
  • Develop individualized articulation programs based on jaw transition complexity
  • Support clients with low tone, Orofacial Myofunctional Disorder (OMD), or dysarthria in connecting muscle movement to speech
  • 185 phoneme cards divided into easy, moderate, and difficult levels based on jaw transition complexity
  • Targets early developing phoneme groups across bilabials, tongue-tip, velar, and lip-rounding sounds
  • Combines consonants with a wide array of vowels in CV and CVC combinations for comprehensive word coverage
  • Allows therapists to select words based on phoneme target and/or articulatory complexity
  • Includes OPT activities outline and detailed instructions for building individualized client programs
  • Companion two-hour online course available for in-depth OPT-S training
  • Updated and improved from the original TalkTools OPT-S program
  • Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) treating children and adults with muscle-based speech disorders
  • Clients with dysarthria, low oral tone, or Orofacial Myofunctional Disorder (OMD)
  • Children ages 2 to 6 with apraxia (use together with Kaufman K-SLP Treatment Kit 1)
