TalkTools® Apraxia Tools

The TalkTools® Apraxia Tools provide a multisensory approach to the m, p, and b phonemes, combining tactile and proprioceptive input to support motor planning and speech sound production for clients with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) and related motor speech disorders. Available individually as Tubes, Shapes, or Blocks, or as a Complete Program with instructional videos for full clinical implementation.

Therapy Goals

  • Provide multisensory tactile and proprioceptive input to facilitate motor planning and sequencing for bilabial phoneme production.
  • Build muscle memory and consistent motor patterns for the m, p, and b speech sounds through structured, graded tool use.
  • Facilitate sensory awareness of lip and jaw positioning and movement during targeted bilabial phoneme practice.
  • Support treatment of Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) and developmental dyspraxia through sensory-motor hierarchies.
  • Develop volitional, consistent control of bilabial sounds for functional speech production across contexts.
  • Multisensory design: addresses the m, p, and b phonemes through tactile, proprioceptive, and visual channels simultaneously.
  • Flexible formats: available as individual tool sets (Tubes, Shapes, Blocks) or as a Complete Program with clinical instructional videos.
  • Structured hierarchy: the Complete Program provides clinical guidance for SLP-led implementation.
  • Flexible purchasing options: therapists can acquire individual components or the full program as needed.
  • Wide clinical applicability: suitable for children and adults across a range of motor speech diagnoses and ability levels.
  • Children and adults with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) or developmental dyspraxia.
  • Clients targeting bilabial phoneme production for m, p, and b sounds in speech therapy.
  • Speech-language pathologists implementing multisensory approaches to motor speech treatment.
  • Occupational therapists supporting oral motor and sensory processing goals.
  • Early intervention, private practice, school-based, and clinic settings.
  • Tubes option: TalkTools Apraxia Tubes set.
  • Shapes option: TalkTools Apraxia Shapes set.
  • Blocks option: TalkTools Apraxia Blocks set.
  • Complete Program: Full set of Tubes, Shapes, and Blocks with access to instructional videos.

So helpful!

We're working on the "O" sound right now and the middle-size tube has been so helpful for us. At first, our kid would not let us bring it near him, then he would hold it in his hand and now he will bring it to his mouth. A work in progress for sure but progress indeed!

Great for oo and oh sound!

My kid has been using the red and blue one for producing oo and oh sound and worked so far :)
I bought this from an intervention center and we have a OPT therapist right now but we are not using the yellow tube yet. For what sound is the yellow one?

Great tactile cues

The shapes and tubes are wonderful tactile cues for my tiny ones with Apraxia or Suspected Apraxia to elicit bilabials and /u/ vowel. My kids have learned to associate the sounds with the shapes and just the visual of the shape and tactile cue on the lips is enough to elicit the sound/or approximation!

A great tool to teach beginning speech sounds!

The Apraxia tubes are a “go to” for children who need extra sensory input when forming lip rounding for /oo/ (boo!) and /oh/ (go!) sounds. It’s hard for children with low muscle tone and strength to pucker. These have helped many children on my caseload to achieve these sounds beautifully! I usuallly use them in conjunction with the bite tube hierarchy, straw and horn hierarchies. They are awesome! Thanks Renee for the Apraxia course too! It helped me to understand how to use them!

Thanks for your comments, we love hearing about your kids achieving speech sounds - that is what it is all about.

My go-to for bilabial speech development

These shapes are great tactile cues for developing speech in the birth-3 and pre-school population. I've had great success using these with not only children with tone and sensory issues, but also typically developing children with speech delays.

Thanks Vanessa, we are happy to hear about your successes - keep up the good work!
