Horn #1

Horn #1 is the first and easiest level of the TalkTools Horn Kit hierarchy, a graduated 12-horn program used in Oral Placement Therapy (OPT) to build lip rounding, breath support, and oral motor coordination for speech and feeding goals. Intended for use under the guidance of a qualified therapist as part of the TalkTools Horn Kit program, it provides a gentle, accessible entry point into graded horn blowing activities.

Therapy Goals

  • Build lip rounding and graded lip pressure at the introductory level of the TalkTools Horn Kit hierarchy.
  • Develop respiratory support and controlled exhalation as a foundation for speech and phonatory goals.
  • Promote anterior-posterior tongue movement and oral coordination during structured horn blowing activities.
  • Build jaw stability through graded oral motor exercise at the easiest level of the Horn Kit hierarchy.
  • Introduce the Horn Kit hierarchy for clients beginning OPT pre-speech or feeding oral motor programs.
  • Easiest horn in the TalkTools 12-horn hierarchy, designed as the accessible entry point for beginning-level clients.
  • Provides a gentle, motivating introduction to graded oral motor exercise through horn blowing activities.

  • Before first use: Wash with mild soap and warm water; rinse thoroughly and allow to dry.
  • After each use: Wash with mild soap and warm water; rinse well and allow to air dry, or clean with a medical-grade surface disinfectant.
  • Do not autoclave.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners or soaking agents that may degrade the material.
  • Assign one horn per client for hygienic use; do not share between clients without thorough disinfection.
  • Inspect before each use; dispose of at the first sign of cracks, warping, or deterioration.
