Gently vibrates as the child bites down on it, providing added sensation to the oral cavity. Satisfies the need for "mouthing."
This is an excellent item, for decreasing oral motor issues such as drooling, mouthing toys, and ultimately improving feeding and articulating. For instance, we train a child using the items they mouth such as blocks for instance, and each time the child mouths a block, replace with teether, as the child is prompted by the vibration and reinforced with the tactile stimulation, received by biting and chewing into it, they will use it more and more, and stop mouthing furniture, papers, clothing etc. and once articulators get stronger, the child will automatically stop drooling and eat better (chewing), properly and resulting in better intelligibility. My client, who is very low intellectually and does not understand too much, an almost 2 year old Downe Syndrome little girl, actually understood what I wanted, and has started to follow me with the teether when I leave, because she knows the reinforce and will do the task, chew on it, so I will stay longer. She matched the teether to her not mouthing as well, because parent has noticed such a change in her, no longer worrying that she will catch germs from items in her environment, who has been searching for sensory stimulation any way she can, and using the teether vibrating and giving her the feeling she is looking for, she is now using that. Mother is also seeing less tongue thrust resulting in drooling decreasing. Feeding is improving and phonological repertoire is building as a result of one method of oral stimulation!!!
