TalkTools Button Pull Program

The TalkTools Button Pull Program is an Oral Placement Therapy (OPT) exercise designed to strengthen lip closure and the orbicularis oris muscle in clients who exhibit weak lip strength or open-mouth resting posture. It targets the oral-motor prerequisites needed for saliva control, lip rounding, and standard speech sound production.

Therapy Goals

  • Strengthen the orbicularis oris muscle to support lip closure
  • Reduce drooling by improving lip seal and saliva control
  • Correct interdental tongue protrusion during functional activities
  • Develop lip rounding needed for straw drinking with tongue retraction
  • Build the oral-motor prerequisites for speech sounds /w/, /o/, /u/, /sh/, /ch/, /j/
  • Directly targets weak lip closure, a primary contributor to drooling
  • Addresses open-mouth resting posture through targeted muscle strengthening
  • Supports functional feeding skills including proper straw use and spoon removal with the lips
  • Builds muscle memory for lip rounding needed in speech production
  • Simple, structured exercise format that can be incorporated into home programs
  • Children and adults with drooling or open-mouth resting posture
  • Clients with interdental tongue protrusion during feeding or speech
  • Individuals who suckle on straws instead of using lip protrusion with tongue retraction
