TalkTools® Straw #8

TalkTools® Straw #8

Straw drinking requires precise coordination of lip, cheek, tongue, and jaw musculature, and developing this coordination progressively is a cornerstone of Oral Placement Therapy (OPT). TalkTools Straw #8 is the final and most challenging straw in the eight-level OPT Straw Drinking Hierarchy, requiring maximum oral motor effort and representing full mastery of the straw-drinking skill sequence.

Therapy Goals

  • Build maximum lip seal, cheek stability, and intraoral pressure required for advanced straw drinking
  • Develop full oral musculature coordination across the complete OPT straw-drinking skill sequence
  • Strengthen the tongue, lips, and cheeks through the highest level of resistance in the hierarchy
  • Establish a measurable benchmark for oral-motor strength and coordination at program completion
  • Support functional drinking skills as the final step in a progressive oral-motor straw program
  • Represents the highest level of difficulty in the TalkTools OPT Straw Drinking Hierarchy
  • Provides a clear clinical milestone: completion signals mastery of the full 8-straw sequence
  • Requires maximum oral motor effort, targeting the full range of oral musculature involved in drinking
  • Designed to be used in sequence with Straws #1 through #7 as part of a complete hierarchy program
  • Available individually to replace or supplement an existing straw kit
  • Clear clinical context: Straw #1 is the easiest, Straw #8 is the most difficult
  • SLPs and OTs administering the TalkTools OPT Straw Drinking Hierarchy
  • Clients who have progressed through Straws #1 to #7 and are ready for maximum challenge
  • Individuals with oral motor weakness, low tone, or feeding-related coordination challenges
  • Children and adults with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, or other diagnoses affecting oral function
  • Feeding therapy programs in school-based, clinical, and private practice settings
  • 1 x TalkTools Straw #8
