Pre-Hierarchy Horn

The Pre-Hierarchy Horn is a therapy tool designed to help very young children and clients with minimal airflow develop volitional oral airflow control. By responding to both inhalation and exhalation, this horn bridges the gap for clients who are not yet ready for Horn #1 in the TalkTools Original Horn Kit. Its wide mouth opening makes it accessible for a broad range of skill levels.

Therapy Goals

  • Build foundational oral airflow awareness through volitional blowing
  • Develop controlled inhalation and exhalation as a precursor to speech sound production
  • Progress clients toward Horn #1 in the TalkTools Horn Hierarchy
  • Support phoneme imitation through structured oral motor practice
  • Responds to both inhalation and exhalation, making it accessible for clients with minimal airflow
  • Wide mouth opening reduces oral motor demand for early-stage clients
  • Serves as a stepping stone to the TalkTools Original Horn Kit
  • Includes therapist instructions for teaching volitional airflow control
  • Suitable for very young children and clients who cannot yet blow Horn #1
  • Infants and toddlers beginning oral motor therapy
  • Clients with minimal or inconsistent oral airflow
  • Children with autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, or cerebral palsy in early intervention programs
