Event Information

Course Description

During this course, participants will learn the basics of what gestalt language processing and the natural language acquisition framework is, and how to work with students who benefit from this framework. Currently in our field, many SLPs are not familiar with gestalt language processing. This is a huge disservice to the autistic community, whom are nearly ALL gestalt language processors. Yes - research shows that at least 85% of autistic people are gestalt language processors. By learning the NLA framework, SLPs will be better equipped to assist autistic students in moving through the stages of language acquisition, from echolalia to self generated language. Video examples and case studies will be analyzed to gain deeper insight into the therapeutic process.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the difference between analytic language processing and gestalt language processing.
  2. Identify and describe the 4 stages of Natural Language Acquisition
  3. List common traits of a gestalt language processor.
  4. Demonstrate support for gestalt language processors through acquired therapy strategies.

I believe I already completed this review- All around awesome teaching!

I believe I already completed this review. Both the presenter and content of this webinar were magnificent! I graduated with M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology in 1994, and really did not recall much of any useful information about this language processing model. I highly recommend this course to both clinicians and any parents whose child/children have been identifying as learning language the ongoing acquisition of gestalts!
