Course Description

Have you ever been blindsided by an unhappy employee and didn’t know what to say? Have you ever had a mad parent screaming in your face? How do you handle these challenging conversations? Well, we can use Verbal Judo. Verbal Judo is a communication technique developed by George J. Thompson, a former English professor and martial artist. It emphasizes using words effectively to de-escalate conflicts, generate cooperation, and achieve positive outcomes in interpersonal interactions. This course will focus on the core principles of Verbal Judo which include empathy, respect, active listening, and redirecting negative energy into constructive dialogue. It's particularly valuable in professions where effective communication is crucial, such as law enforcement, healthcare, education, and customer service.
