What happens to our patient outcomes (and our credibility in the medical community) when we incorrectly diagnose TOTs? It is time for a real, honest discussion about the treatment and increasing overtreatment of Tethered Oral Tissues. In this course we will discuss some of the most common symptoms of oral ties, but will take you through the Differential Diagnosis process…. exploring a myriad of other issues that can also present these same symptoms. By broadening our understanding of the differential diagnosis, we will avoid unnecessary treatment and also increase our success with patients that truly have TOTs.
 

Participants will be able to:

1. Explain why proper diagnosis is essential to preventing overtreatment of TOTs
2. List multiple factors leading to poor tongue and lip mobility
3. Understand other factors that lead to clenching, bruxing, forward head posture, mouth breathing and sleep disordered breathing
