Course Description

Inspired by the principles introduced in one of The Daisy Speech Books, Dance with Daisy, Language in Motion: Incorporate Movement and Sign into Early Intervention Sessions explores how speech-language pathologists can intentionally incorporate movement, music, dance, and American Sign Language (ASL) into speech therapy. One does not have to be a dance teacher to use movement effectively. This course focuses on simple, functional ways to integrate movement into everyday therapy activities to increase engagement, support language development, and create a language rich environment. Although the course centers on early intervention, these techniques can be adapted to support learners across ages.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will be able to: 

  • Integrate movement into speech therapy sessions for all ages, especially for the early intervention population.
  • Confidently demonstrate to parents how to teach American Sign Language to their children.
  • Apply foundational elements of an effective early intervention speech therapy session.
