Event Information

Course Description

This is an 1.5-hr on demand webinar designed for OT, SLP and PT's interested in expanding their knowledge on the connection between gross motor skills and feeding skills across early childhood/childhood populations. Specifically the first year of life and into the novice ambulation portion of development. The course is intended to enhance their skills in screening and referral techniques while expanding their assessment within their respective scope of practice. There is not a pre-course but this is designed and intended to open to conversation between allied health professionals and decrease the amount of isolation in the feeding community.

The on demand course will include understanding the potential for in-depth care and holistic care with this population and review of health domains/systems body systems review. The course will also highlight the importance of pelvic health beginning from infancy versus the commonly held belief that pelvic health is only relevant to postpartum or menopausal women. Students will be challenged to develop an understanding of cross and when it's appropriate to integrate physical therapy support and how to identify an appropriate provider. While this course is about typical topics the integration and utilization of its contents are highly nuanced and require a student who is curious and ready to expand their knowledge - not simply take another course for credits.

Learning Outcomes

The participant will be able to:

  1. Student will be able to identify 3 reasons to request a consult from PT team member or indications for referral out to PT
  2. Student will provide one example of the importance of milestones from prone play to early novice ambulation in client friendly language.
  3. Student will describe the theory of the "mother baby dyad approach" and why it is different than isolationist theory.
  4. Student will identify 3 basic airway health priorities in an infant and toddler with novice ambulation skills.
  5. Student will explain in detail the options for paced feeding in client friendly language.
