Event Information

Course Description

Tethered Oral Tissue releases are occurring at much higher levels over the last several years. There are many reasons for this trend, which is why it is important for therapists who assess TOTs to make measured and informed decisions. Certified Orofacial Myologist and Talktools Level 3 therapist, Kayla Fontenot, is on the frontlines of assessing tethered oral tissues each day. She will be discussing potential scenarios that may indicate a "wait and see" strategy and how to apply a holistic, parent and family-centered approach regarding TOTs releases. She will provide individual case studies and explore the dynamics of decision-making with an emphasis on when -- and why -- to wait on releases.

Learning Outcomes

The participant should be able to:

  1. Explain 3 holistic areas of readiness for TOTs release
  2. Develop a family-centered TOTs release plan
  3. Establish a coordinated approach among the Integrated TOTs Team
  4. Provide 3 supportive responses for families making the decision to release TOTs
