Course Description

Myotools 101™ helps clinicians who are new to orofacial myology view their caseloads through a new lens. It opens the door to understanding the nexus of form and function—an interaction that serves as the foundation for improved airway health, sleep, oral resting posture, feeding, and speech.

Using the specialized Myoscreener and Myostructure tools, attendees will learn to identify and prevent orofacial myofunctional disorders. The course emphasizes the importance of interdisciplinary practice and provides the framework for building a referral base for the "Myo Team."

By the end of this journey, attendees will have the tools needed to make proper clinical referrals or be prepared to move on to more advanced training in orofacial myology.

Learning Outcomes
  • Understand the need for dissociation and grading for feeding and speech.
  • Appropriately apply at least 5 new therapy techniques.
  • Learn to use Oral Placement Therapy (OPT) techniques as a tactile cueing system in conjunction with traditional speech therapy techniques.
  • Describe how therapeutic straw drinking can be used to improve speech clarity for /s/ and /z/.
