Stuttering is a complex disorder area that is constantly evolving within the field of speech pathology. When working with school-age children who stutter, a holistic view of stuttering helps to facilitate generalization and long-term progress. It is important that SLPs are not only familiar with fluency-shaping and stuttering-modification strategies, but also the social and emotional aspects of stuttering and how to support students in a variety of communication settings. The biggest question when it comes to stuttering therapy is often: where do I start? Participants in this course will learn about the elements of stuttering evaluation and treatment focused on the affective, behavioral, and cognitive aspects of stuttering. Participants will be provided with the necessary tools to increase confidence working with and supporting children who stutter and their families.
