Course Description

This session explores how sensory processing differs across individuals and why sensory differences are frequently misunderstood or overlooked. It examines overload, sensory seeking, and environmental demands, alongside the impact on regulation, behavior, and daily functioning.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will be able to:

  • Define sensory processing and explain how differences in sensory systems affect regulation, behaviour, learning, and wellbeing.
  • Identify signs of sensory over- and under-sensitivity across the eight sensory systems, including vestibular, proprioception, and interoception.
  • Apply practical, neurodiversity-affirming strategies (e.g. sensory breaks, profiles, environmental adaptations) to reduce overload and support participation.
