Course Description | Fascia is a trendy word these days. A whole host of therapies attribute successful clinical outcomes to fascial interventions. But are these therapy claims evidence-based or just hype? In short, do speech pathologists need to know more about fascial anatomy? This course will give the thinking speech pathologist a rigorous understanding of fascia, its role in various oromyofunctional disorders and how this knowledge impacts referral for manual therapy and your oromyofunctional therapy prescriptions.
Learning Outcomes | The participant will be able to:
- Analyze the micro and macro anatomy of fascia and its role in function.
- Describe the scientific evidence to date. What is fact and what is rubbish.
- Explain the clinical implications of fascial dysfunction in relation to oromyofunctional disorders, ankyloglossia, TMD and dysphagia.
- Demonstrate manual assessment that you can use clinically and what manual therapies to collaborate with as adjunct treatment for you patients.
