Event Information
Course Description
The course will demonstrate the clinical application of tools such as TalkTools® Bite Blocks, tongue elevation and lateralization tools, Chewy Tubes®, SENSEE®, Bubble Kits, and the Jiggler. Participants will also learn to recognize signs of tethered oral tissues (TOTS), understand the impact of tongue ties on oral function, and implement therapy techniques that support tongue-jaw dissociation, oral awareness, and optimal tongue-to-spot positioning. Practical activities, case examples, and treatment demonstrations will provide clinicians with immediately applicable techniques for use in therapy sessions.
Learning Outcomes
1. Identify the components of appropriate oral resting posture and explain their impact on breathing, feeding, and speech sound production.
2. Assess oral motor structures and functions that may contribute to open mouth posture and reduced tongue elevation.
3. Apply jaw stabilization techniques using Bite Blocks to facilitate tongue-jaw dissociation and improve tongue isolation.
4. Integrate sensory-motor tools, including the Jiggler and SENSEE®, to increase oral awareness and support oral resting posture goals.
5. Demonstrate strategies for targeting lip closure and lip rounding through the use of Bubble Kits and structured oral motor activities.
6. Evaluate tongue mobility and function related to tongue elevation, lateralization, and oral resting posture.
7. Identify signs and symptoms associated with tethered oral tissues (TOTS) and discuss their potential impact on feeding, speech, and oral function.
8. Develop treatment plans that incorporate oral motor and sensory-based interventions to improve oral resting posture and functional outcomes.
