Course Description

In this self-study short course,the instructor taught therapists why a lisp is rarely a developmental speech sound disorder and challenged therapists to look beyond inconsistent articulation normative data and the traditional model when assessing and treating lispsOrofacial myofunctional disorders were discussed athe root of the pesky lisp and medical and structural challenges were explored. Lateral and interdental lisps were targeted, as well as the placement of /t/, /d/, /n/, /l/, /r/, // , /t/ and /dз/.Participants were providestrategies that they could immediately apply to their practice.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will be able to: 

  1. Identify the similarities of interdental and lateral lisp(s)in clients.
  2. List three etiologies for a lisp.
  3. Demonstrate two new techniques to correct a lisp.
