Course Description

The MYOTools™ 101 + 102: Foundations & Clinical Applications of Orofacial Myology workshop provides clinicians with a comprehensive introduction to Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs), from understanding the relationship between structure and function to implementing practical, evidence-based intervention strategies across the lifespan.

Participants will first build a strong foundation in identifying OMDs by exploring how airway health, oral resting posture, feeding, and speech are interconnected. Using the MYOScreener™ and MYOStructure™ tools, attendees will learn to recognize structural and functional characteristics of OMDs while developing an interdisciplinary approach to assessment and referrals.

Airway - Improve nasal breathing, airway awareness, healthy sleep habits, and oral resting posture through evidence-based therapeutic techniques.
Structure - Understand the relationship between craniofacial development, dentition, muscle function, and treatment timing to support optimal structural outcomes.
Feeding - Apply practical strategies for mastication, bolus collection, swallowing, oral placement, and sensory-motor feeding development.
Speech - Integrate oral placement and tactile cueing techniques to improve speech production while addressing the underlying functional causes of speech sound disorders.

Participants will leave with practical assessment strategies, therapeutic techniques, and clinical tools that can be immediately incorporated into daily practice. Every concept is supported by current research and over two decades of clinical experience, providing clinicians with a complete framework for recognizing, assessing, and treating Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders.

Learning Outcomes
  • Build a strong foundation in identifying and understanding Orofacial Myofunctional Disordersz.
  • Learn a systematic approach to assessing the Four MYODomains™: Airway, Structure, Feeding, and Speech.
  • Practice evidence-based therapeutic techniques that can be immediately implemented in clinical practice.
  • Gain the confidence to develop individualized treatment plans using practical, research-supported strategies.
Prerequisite Note

MYOTools 101 is not a requirement but is highly recommended. These courses can be taken in any order or as a complement to other orofacial myology training.
