Build the foundation and target all 4 MYODomains in a single 1-day intensive workshop.
MYOTools 101™ helps clinicians who are new to orofacial myology view their caseloads through a new lens — the nexus of form and function that underlies airway health, sleep, oral resting posture, feeding, and speech.
Using the specialized MYOscreener and MYOstructure tools, attendees learn to identify and prevent orofacial myofunctional disorders, and build the framework for an interdisciplinary "Myo Team" referral base.
Building on the morning session, the afternoon takes a deeper dive into the form-function balance, moving from recognizing orofacial myofunctional disorders to incorporating active strategies into therapeutic practice across the four essential MYODomains: Airway, Structure, Feeding, and Speech.
Attendees learn practical techniques for immediate clinical use, including massage for nasal passageways, scent training for nasal breathing, the Sensi Tool for oral placement targets, mastication strategies, and bolus collection.
- Understand the need for dissociation and grading for feeding and speech.
- Appropriately apply at least 5 new therapy techniques from the morning session.
- Use Oral Placement Therapy (OPT) techniques as a tactile cueing system alongside traditional speech therapy.
- Describe 2 techniques for improving nasal breathing.
- Implement 2 tactile cues to stimulate improved tongue tip elevation for speech and swallowing.
- Cite at least two evidence-based studies supporting the use of oral myofunctional therapy.
This presentation focuses on treatment methods related to the use of TalkTools® resources. Other similar treatment approaches will receive limited or no coverage during this lecture.
